Laboratory Technician (Biology)

    Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for the permanent position of Laboratory Technician (Biology) with Council\'s Water Unit.

    In this position, you will be required to perform routine microbiological and phycological (algae) analyses. The position is expected to ha ve extensive quality assurance skills and knowledge of media production and maintenance of a microbiological culture collection.

    The successful applicant will need to possess tertiary qualifications in Microbiology, Phycology and/or Laboratory Techniques/Operations, competence within a commercial laboratory environment, and competence in the use of computers and instrumentation software. You will also possess knowledge of OH&S guidelines in relation to performance of analytical techniques, knowledge of NATA and associated guidelines and a current Drivers Licence Class C.

    The position is currently based at Council’s Banora Point Laboratory, but can be required to work out of any of Council’s administrative offices, depots or any other location within the Shire as directed by the supervisor.

    Salary ranges between $933.12 and $1,095.51 per week (dependent upon experience) plus 9% superannuation
    A 9 day fortnight, 35 hour working week applies

    The position incumbent will undergo a 3 month probationary period. Salary packaging is available to Council employees.
